Totally Biased Preaching Book List

Best Preaching Books

What keeps you going in ministry? For me, it is often the right quote at the right time that quickly and succinctly prompts me to pause and reflect. I don’t even have to agree with the quote if it is thoughtful and charitably shared. Social media is a potential source of that inspiring quote, but many times that charitable tone is missing.

Because of my interest in expository preaching, I often find energizing thoughts in the pages of my favorite books on preaching. It wasn’t easy, but I’ve identified my top 25 favorite books from my preaching library. I admit that this is a totally biased list.

My criteria for choosing:

  1. These are books on my shelves. Therefore, I admit this is limited. I plan to add electronic versions, but I’m starting with those physically present in my library. And, I’d love to interact with you on books I’ve currently overlooked.

  2. These books have helped me personally and have a special place in my life and/or ministry. Therefore, I admit this is totally biased.

  3. I added an extra point or two to the works authored by teachers I’ve been honored to study under in person. This is a second layer of bias since I can see and hear the words jump off the pages.

I’ll regularly pull one of these top 25 to share some encouraging thoughts from their pages on Twitter and Instagram. Please share your thoughts as I’d value interaction. Feel free to disagree or challenge me, but since the goal is some mutual encouragement, please be charitable as you comment. And because I’m being totally biased (based on the above criteria), please feel free to be totally biased in sharing your thoughts.
